What is a mala?
A Mala is a strand of 108 beads traditionally made with a large bead at the end called a Guru Bead and a tassel.
Religions use it to keep count mantra repetitions during japa meditation with the goal to control and focus the mind and ultimately achieve a higher level of consciousness.
First, you need to set an intention for your practice and choose a mantra or an affirmation to recite. Then, the mala becomes infused with your personal energy.
The more you meditate with your mala, the stronger the positive connection will become between you and your beads. Wearing your mala throughout the day, will make it a constant reminder of your personal intentions.
A mala can be used for spiritual practice, or worn as a fashion jewelry around your neck regardless of faith or whether or not you meditate.
A beautiful alternative to long malas are wrist malas, or bracelets. They are easy to wear and you can use them for practice or as a reminder no matter where you are.
Thanks to its positive representation, the mala can be a thoughtful gift for loved ones or friends.
